VCA Firehouse Animal Hospital

This is long overdue as I've been bringing both my cats here for a few years, but my senior kitty has had some health problems recently that have really brought to light how fantastic the VCA team is! My older cat developed hyperthyroidism earlier this year and was shortly after diagnosed with early-stage kidney disease. We've figured out the right dosage and diet to keep him healthy and although there have been a few bumps in the road (he stopped eating shortly before Christmas), their quick responses and vast knowledge have helped us get back on track. I am so grateful to the Firehouse office staff for their friendliness, clear communication, and overall helpful attitudes. CareClub has genuinely been a lifesaver for my little man!

I can’t say enough amazing things about VCA Firehouse! Dr. Adams is our go-to vet! She is the sweetest veterinarian and my pets are so calm under her loving & gentle care. When she is not available, Dr. Longo & Dr. Martinez have been wonderful! Ryann at the front desk also deserves a shout out. I have personally pushed my appointments back so that I came on a day where both Ryann and Dr Adams were there!! I trust VCA Firehouse with my pet's care. They listen to my concerns, get me in for an appointment quickly when needed and follow up to see how your pup is feeling after their visit. I think the VCA clinics are independent - so even though I have moved and there is one closer - I still go to this location. I have tried quite a few vet clinics. This one all-in-all is pretty top-notch. Very thorough and organized with getting me important information and details and explaining things to me.

Most of our experiences here have been good. They care about animals and are very friendly. The front desk staff are always helpful. I wish the vets would coordinate more, because it can feel like you are starting from scratch when you see the vet who just happens to have an opening that day. It would be nice to hear that they read the chart and have a sense of what is going on with your pup when we start the conversation. That said, I have only had positive experiences with the vets, once they do understand the situation.

Be very careful about pet teeth cleanings and anesthesia, here and anywhere else. Our beloved cat Marlowe broke her jaw during a routine teeth cleaning at VCA Firehouse. She died unexpectedly a couple of weeks later under anesthesia at another VCA facility during minor surgery on her face sutures. This happened a few months ago now, but my wife and I still can't even talk to each other about her final weeks. It's unimaginably painful to think about the suffering and fear that she must’ve experienced. Various middle managers at VCA assure us that this was basically the result of two freak accidents—an unusual tooth configuration that weakened her jaw when the tooth was removed, and probably an undiagnosed heart murmur that caused her to die under anesthesia. If it was freak accidents, that might be more worrying than human negligence. Some routine veterinary operations are not as safe as they might seem. VCA has promised us that they will begin collecting data on adverse events across the conglomerate and make improvements to cat handling during tooth operations. We hope they are being sincere and that what happened to Marlowe will improve care for pets at all of VCA's 800+ facilities.
